ABOUT THE TENNIS TEAM

The U of C Dinos Men's tennis team was founded in 1989, with a Women's team being established in 1991. In the early 1990's, the U of C Dinos were integral in establishing university tennis in Western Canada, founding and hosting the inaugural Western Canadian University Tennis Championships, which both the Men's and Women's teams went on to win many times throughout the 1990's. The Dinos teams also regularly went to the US, where they played against American NCAA and NAIA teams, posting many victories over these teams. Unfortunately, in the early years of this century, the Dinos teams weren't as competitive for a variety of reasons, not least of which had been a vast improvement in the programs at some other Western Canadian Universities. In 2012, therefore, a group of Calgary Tennis aficionados, including ex-Dinos players, formed the Dinos Tennis Society (DTS) to rejuvenate and improve Dinos tennis, not just to the stature the team held in its early years, but hopefully to even greater heights and achievements.

Currently, players practice Saturday and Sunday evenings as well as a Wednesday morning practice at the Alberta Tennis Centre and are eligible for a wide array of athletic scholarships.
